3 Tips For A Fit & Frugal Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is the holiday that unofficially marks the start of summer for most people. This means bathing suit and barbecue season is here! If you're like so many others, you may be thinking "Oh no, that time already? I'm not ready to show so much skin." Or "I don't want to spend a fortune this weekend between parties and trips."

Don't worry! It doesn't need to be difficult to stick with your healthy eating plan while enjoying all the fun activities warmer weather has to offer. Get your summer started right with a great and healthy Memorial Day weekend...without spending a fortune or splurging on junk food!

Here are 3 fun activities to keep your Memorial Day weekend fit and frugal.

1. Explore the Great Outdoors

Hiking

A great way to get exercise without actually feeling that you are attempting to burn that stubborn fat is by going for a hike around a neighborhood lake or finding a new nature trail. Start your weekend with an outdoor workout!

Another outdoor option? Camping! Pitch a tent, light a fire, and roast some chicken and veggie kabobs for dinner. Play hide-and-seek, catch fireflies, or organize a scavenger hunt to get in some exercise. A weekend spent camping can be a great (and very low cost) way to welcome summer!

2. Stay Local

Stay Local

Finding out what’s going on in your local community is easy...grab the local newspaper and check out all the exciting things going on in your community and neighboring towns. Live music, farmers markets, festivals, baseball games, carnivals, drive-in movies, fairs, fireworks, and parades...the list goes on and on. These inexpensive events are tons of fun and can make for an excellent holiday weekend!

And don't forget the beach, lake, or community pool...many people choose to spend their Memorial Day weekend by the water.

3. Host a Party

Memorial Day Party

Hosting a party may not seem like an inexpensive option...and the planning might give you a bit of a headache...but that doesn't have to be the case. Whip up a batch of easy and delicious orange-raspberry water to keep everyone refreshed, and remember to put out platters of fresh veggies and fruits for easy snacking. No plates needed...just have lots of toothpicks handy and your guests will be happy. Put some Beach Boys on the stereo, and voilà, a stress-free party that you'll actually enjoy!

Choose one (or more) of these activities, and get out there and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
