Look and Feel Your Best Ever

Yesterday, I told you about the transition I've noticed in my life the past few years. My goal shifted from being "skinny" and "toned" to being HEALTHY. What's funny, though, is that in focusing on my health, I've actually ended up looking (and feeling) my best ever.

As promised, today I'm going to share with you 3 things to keep in mind when it comes to your health and feeling the best you've ever felt.

1. Life is an Olympic event and food will fuel you for your sport.

For me, my specific event is parenting...and, of course, I’m trying to win the gold medal like everyone else. Your event may be businessman/woman, teacher, doctor, nurse...the list goes on and on. Instead of asking yourself whether or not something is going to make you "fat," ask yourself if the food you are choosing is going to give you the most energy possible to do your job to the best of your ability. For me, I have 2 young children under the age of 4. Energy and stamina is the name of the game here. I stay away from any food that is going to make me feel lethargic because I really can not slow down at any point during the day.

2. Only exercise by doing activities that you love.

Long gone are the days that I must "drag myself to the gym." Now, I have a list of activities that I absolutely love so working out, for me, is one of my favorite parts of the day. Right now, I absolutely love the exercise classes I take at the gym because that is when I get to see my other mommy friends and we get together and talk about whatever it is mommies talk about. I look forward to it. Actually, I love going, so staying motivated to exercise is not really an issue because I look forward to seeing my friends.

Find something you love. Don’t do what you think you "have to do." That just sounds like torture. Find an activity that you’re going to look forward to and not want to miss, regardless of motivation.

3. Accept your body for what it is.

I know, I know, that is easier said than done, but the truth is, we are all unique and continuing to compare ourselves to so called "idols" is not healthy and, hands down, just not realistic.

This one really did take me the longest to accomplish. I’m short, I have thick muscular legs, and my arms just never seem to get that tone in them that I see in other women. OH WELL! (But I do have really great hair...just thought I’d mention it). In all seriousness, at 5 foot nothing, I’m not sure that certain clothes are ever going to look on me the way they do on those girls in the magazines and I had better come to grips with it now, because if I don’t, I’m just going to be miserable trying to accomplish something that is really not possible.

So, the only thing left to do is to accept my body exactly how it is...big calves and all...and focus on all the things I really love about myself. I have awesome hair (oh, I already mentioned that), I have a great smile, and people are uplifted by my positive spirit. For me, that is more important than the latest pair of popular skinny jeans (maybe one day someone will make skinny jeans for short girls with muscular legs).

I hope today’s blog post will get you one step closer to seeing that achieving the body of your dreams is really a journey of health. One that is possible for you and possible to maintain long term.

What makes YOU feel your best ever?
