A Beyond Diet Success Story

One of the biggest requests we get from people who are looking to start on Beyond Diet is for success stories. Arlene is one of our most active members on the site - she has lost a great deal of weight and has maintained that weight loss! Read on for her story.

Life Before Beyond Diet

I began BD 14 months ago at the age of 54 and haven't looked back. For several years prior to joining BD, I had been morbidly obese. I weighed 285 pounds and had developed diabetes which required medication. The doctor told me if I lost weight I would no longer be diabetic. No one was responsible for what I ate, nor was anyone to blame but me!

I loved nighttime snacks of salty junk food and ice cream and had a major sugar addiction! My lifestyle jeopardized my health. My diet needed to change! No one could do this for me nor could anyone change the damage done to my body. The first change was giving up sugar cold turkey! Second change was giving up everything white except for fish and cauliflower (I wasn't an egg person). Whole wheat, soy products, artificial sweeteners, and fat free foods became my new foods. I began incorporating more fruit, vegetables, and salads into my daily meals and increased my water intake. The night snacking continued from my new foods list, all washed down with loads of diet pop. The weight came off, and I was diabetes free! Over the years I could never manage to take off those last 20-25 pounds no matter what I tried. I became very health and nutrition conscious, believing my food choices were just as healthy and nutritious, or so I thought!

How I Found Beyond Diet

While my husband was researching the Ayurvedic Diet for me (I was computer illiterate) he saw an ad for Beyond Diet and figured since it was similar to the way I was eating I should check it out! I almost fell off my chair! I told him "Beyond Diet is a dream come true, this is exactly what I've been looking for!"

Eating according to my body type (which is the Ayurvedic way) interested me. But body types and metabolism types are not the same! I needed to eat proper ratios of proteins, carbs, and fats according to my metabolism type (which had nothing to do with my body type), as well as portion control! I became a member within 2 minutes and devoured every bit of information available!

The Beyond Diet Lifestyle

This was a shock to the system: I had to eat 5x daily; limit my fruits and veggies and other carbs; and none of my so called "healthy' foods were BD approved. I had to add fat to my meals, heavens forbid! Eating fat was very challenging for me on BD and took several months before it really sunk in that you need to eat fat to burn fat! Now I'm the queen of coconut oil and put it on and in everything I eat! I no longer fear eating healthy fats in the right proportions!

I jumped in feet first and let BD give me all it had and ran with it! From day one till present (14 months later), I've never stopped using my Success Journal or measuring and weighing my food. I’ve never overeaten my portions, had a nighttime snack, or eaten anything that wasn’t BD approved (not as much as a nibble or bite except for communion at church once a month). And I have stayed connected to the BD community daily!

Listen To Your Body

BD taught me the importance of listening to my body to see which foods and what amounts my body responded to best. We only have one crack at life and I want mine to be the best it can be. I desire to be sound and healthy in spirit, soul, and body! Our health is priceless, and BD is a gift that just keeps giving!

I switched my focus from losing weight to being healthy - the weight started coming off, and within the next two months I'd reached my goal weight of 125 pounds…and it kept coming off until I hit 119 pounds. I've maintained that weight ever since. I learned that by eating the right, whole, natural foods, excess weight takes care of itself! Eating according to our unique metabolism type is truly the key to health; along with proper ratios of proteins, carbs, and fats…and appropriate serving sizes. The weight comes off and stays off!
