On-The-Go Snacking

Recently I asked this question on the Beyond Diet Facebook page:

What's your "go-to" snack for when you're out? AKA how do you avoid the fast food restaurants?

I had so many replies and would like to share some of those with you. Hopefully these responses will be inspiration for those of you who don't know what to pack to avoid the temptations of "convenience" food.

  • Applesauce - Unsweetened, of course.
  • Protein shakes - Try this Blueberry Banana Protein Shake!
  • Apple with raw nuts - Hands down, the most popular with our Facebook fans.
  • Hard-boiled eggs - An excellent source of protein if you're not a fan of nuts.
  • Homemade trail mix - Keep it simple with this Fruit and Nut Trail Mix.
  • Fruit - So popular this time of year, and perfect to bring to a picnic or party.
  • Granola - Stir into yogurt for a great breakfast on-the-go.
  • Beef jerky - Look for ones with no nitrates or nitrites and all-natural ingredients.

Many people on Facebook also mentioned always keeping a bottle of water on hand. I'm so glad everyone realizes just how important it is to stay hydrated at all times...even when traveling. (Keep in mind that juices, soda, and coffee can actually dehydrate you, making you feel tired and cranky.)

Break out those coolers and load 'em up with healthy snacks for your Memorial Day trip. Your family will thank you!
