What is Your Exercise Type?

I've done a lot of different types and forms of exercise over the years.

In fact - you may not know this - my first degree is in exercise physiology. So I've not only tried it all, I've actually studied it all, too.

And you know what the most important thing I've learned is?

Everybody is different.

It seems trite, but it's true. The workout or exercise program that works for one person isn't necessarily going to work for the next.

Just like there are different metabolism types, there are also different "exercise types."

Here are a few of the most popular exercise types I've seen:

1. The bodybuilder

This person loves a challenge, and is constantly seeking self-improvement. The bodybuilder has no fear of the gym, has no major injuries, and loves to push themselves to be better and stronger.

2. The runner

This person might dabble in strength training or gym workouts, but what really gets them going is a long stretch of asphalt and a good pair of sneakers. This person never misses a morning run, and may even train for marathons.

3. The video lover

In my experience, this is a very common type. The video lover has tried many different types of workouts, but dislikes the gym and is too busy to join a class or meet up for any kind of exercise outside of the home.

4. The easy exerciser

This is another VERY common type, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being "an easy exerciser." This person usually leads a busy, stressful life and needs their workout time to also be relaxation time, which is why they enjoy mild exercise forms like long walks or swimming. They may have old injuries or other physical limitations, so they appreciate forms of exercise that are gentle on the joints and accessible to all beginners, like yoga.

There are many, many more types than what I've mentioned here, but these are definitely some of the most common ones. And you can even be different types at different times! While I've never been a runner, I've definitely gone through periods of being an easy exerciser, and when that happens I love using yoga because it keeps me lean and stress-free without having to over-exert myself.

If you're an easy exerciser who needs a way to burn off extra fat without overly stressing your body and while reducing stress, check out this relaxing exercise method on Beyond Diet.
