Pre-turkey fasting makes you fat! Try my quick AM strategy...

People spend days and even weeks planning and preparing for their Thanksgiving feast - what recipes to use, what food to buy, how to set the table.

It's a big day for food, and all that emphasis on indulging can send so many people into the end-of-the-year weight gain phenomenon.

You may be all too familiar with this which is why I've already shared with you some of my own tried-and-true tips for staying on track. In case you missed them...

» How to have your turkey (and eat pie, too!)

Cooking Turkey

One common misconception that a lot of people try every year is fasting before the feast. The thought is that if you don't eat prior to dinner you'll be able to really go nuts at the heavy meal coming up later.

This has a lot to do with the myths about calories. People figure that they can save all of the calories they should eat throughout the day for that one special meal.

Let me tell you right now...DON'T FAST!

Here's why...

#1: You’ll be starving all day!

As you may already know, you need to eat every 2-3 hours in order to maintain a balanced blood sugar level, which prevents insulin – the fat-storing hormone – from being released.

Starving Woman

You see, when you go too long between meals or snacks, your blood sugar soars to high highs and insulin (again, the FAT-STORING hormone) is released to bring your levels back into the healthy range. Insulin does what food can do naturally...and without putting your body into fat-storing mode.

In fact, eating regularly throughout the day can increase your metabolism, put you in fat-burning mode – exactly what you want – and you'll still be able to enjoy every dish at dinner.

#2: You’re not a sumo wrestler!

Sumo wrestlers purposely eat in a way, commonly called the "Sumo Wrestler Diet," that will help them get fat for their sport.

How do they do that?

Sumo Wrestler

Well it looks a lot like the fasting plan we're talking about. They skip breakfast, eat the majority of their day's calories in one large, heavy meal, and then go straight to bed.

Sounds like a typical Thanksgiving, doesn't it?

But you're not a sumo wrestler and, if you're reading this blog right now, I assume your goals are actually the exact opposite – to lose weight and get healthy.

Since your goal is to avoid putting on pounds, even during the holidays, you need to have a healthy start to your Thanksgiving Day...just like any other day.

To keep the festive spirit of the holiday going from morning til night, I'm planning on having this delicious pumpkin smoothie. Not only will it keep me going while I cook, but it tastes great and will put me in that ideal fat-burning zone all day.

And I want you to have the same amazing benefits, so here you go...
