Smoothie Making 101

There are thousands of different combinations you can make to come up with the perfect smoothie. These drinks are a great choice when you're on the go, bored with your old breakfast and snack ideas, or just want to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Follow these steps to build the perfect smoothie.

1. Choose a base.

Consistency is key when making a smoothie. You don't want it too runny, but you don't want to have to use a spoon to eat it either. Excellent bases include...

  • ½ - 1 frozen banana
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt

2. Pick your favorite fruits/vegetables.

Some people prefer fruit smoothies, some vegetable, and others like a combination of the two. Here are some of our favorites to include in delicious smoothies:

  • Berry medley: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries
  • Tropical fruits: pineapple, mango, papaya
  • Classic fruits: apple, pear, peach
  • Best veggies: spinach, kale, carrot, cucumber, pumpkin

3. Add a liquid.

This may not be necessary if the fruits/vegetables you use are really juicy. If you do add a liquid, be sure to add just a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

  • Almond milk
  • Coconut milk
  • Coconut water
  • Water

4. Give your smoothie a little something extra.

Spices, seeds, and other various ingredients can make a great addition to any smoothie. Try some of these:

  • Chia seeds - an excellent source of fiber
  • Nut butter - for a little extra protein
  • Apple cider vinegar - aids in weight loss and detoxing the body
  • Cinnamon - helps to regulate blood sugar and lower cholesterol
  • Protein powder - give you smoothie a protein boost
