The Inside Scoop on Isabel - Did You Know This?

  • Healthy Eating
  • Clean Eating

Recently I posted a little message in the Beyond Diet Share section and the first response I received was,

"Isabel, we would love to hear from you more."

Well, you are in luck.

I asked my team to create this blog so I can now communicate with you more often. That is not to say I won’t be in the Beyond Diet site, answering questions and posting comments or still writing newsletters, but this give me a place to write ANYTHING I want (nutrition and just personal stuff I would love to share).

Today I’m going to tell you what was probably the greatest lesson I learned in 2012.

Let me explain...

I have two little boys, Marcos, who is now 17 months, and Christian, who is almost 3½ years old. This alone is enough to keep one human being busy, and then you throw a full-time business in there and taking care of your health, well now you are just flat out insane.

After Marcos was born in July 2011, I had several “mini” breakdowns about "How in the world am I going to do it all??? I have employees I am committed to, I have a house to take care of, healthy eating and exercise is a super high priority for me.... How do I do this?"

I could describe each and every mini breakdown, but really, there’s no need to get into the gory details. It was not Isabel at her finest moments and I would much rather share with you the strategies that got me through it.

Isabel

Here is my list, in no particular order.

1. I learned methods over this past year about organization and taking care of myself that I would have NEVER learned had I not experienced this tough situation. It was really easy for me to tell people how to eat and exercise when it was just me, or even when it was just me and my hubby, but it became a completely different ball game once you threw 2 kids in the mix. I feel like I am a better nutritionist and teacher for every single one of you because I get it. I’m right there in the craziness of life along with you and I am here to share every single thing I learned.

2. I learned to be humble and ask for help. Long gone are the days of "No that’s okay. I can do it." Yeah, right. Now it's more like, "Yes, please, I will take any and all help you are offering. What time can you be at my house?" I am very, very fortunate that I have both my parents and my in-laws about 10 minutes away. This is a blessing to say the least. They love to help me with the kids and my mother loves to help me cook. I could not do what I do every day without their help. I thank them often (probably so often they are tired of hearing me say it) and there is never a day that goes by that I am not grateful for them in my life.

3. I learned that if I don’t take care of ME, everyone else is negatively affected. This one took me a long time to get and I’m sure there are other moms out there reading this thinking, "What? I gotta take care of the kids. I gotta do the laundry. Take care of me? Who has time for that?" Yup, that was me last year, but now what I realize if I don’t carve out the time (or ask for help) to get my healthy food together, fit in 30 minutes of exercise and read a few pages of whatever book I’m reading, I am not mentally or physically replenished to take on all of my responsibilities. Yes, I have 2 kids and a hubby that depend on me, but I am no good to them if I am tired, exhausted, cranky and not in good health.

So that’s what I’ll be sharing here...the inside scoop on Isabel and all the craziness that goes on in my life...hahaha.
